I'll Sleep When I'm Dead

That's kind of where we're at right now.
I've got a million and one things going on (hello, October)
and my already racing mind feels twice as racy as normal.

Plus also, it's rained for the past 45908234098 days
and doing anything besides laying on the couch watching TV
on rainy days is just pure insanity.

Unfortunately, I'm the only one who thinks this,
therefore I've still had to go to work and do other mature adult things,
like clean the house and put away laundry.
It's been interesting to say the least.

Anyway, all of this rambling is simply my excuse for not having a decent blog post today
or probably tomorrow either.
But hey, if the government can shut down for 15 days,
so can I.

Which, real quick, my two cents on that whole thing
is this - every other professional has to continue to get their job done
whether or not they agree with the people they work with,
hence that whole "being professional thing".
95% of working people probably disagree with each other on a daily basis.
Yet they still get shit done.
Come on....government, buck up.
Or in the words of Hank Williams Jr.
"why can't we all just get a longggggg neck?"

Anyway, I have lots of fun stuff to tell you about.
It's just not happening right now.
Sorry bout it.

Until then,
I'll be on the couch watching Grey's Anatomy reruns.

Hugs,

One day...

I'll be an actual grown up.
I've mentioned this goal once or twice or twenty different times on my blog before.
And depending on the mood you catch me in,
"being an actual grown up" can mean eleventy different things.

For example,
sometimes I feel like a real grown up when I go grocery shopping all by myself
(although, lately that's been Robbie's job - God bless that man.)
Or when I'm teaching and I realize that I'm in charge of a whole classroom full of students.
It stills always kind of takes me by surprise.

Sometimes I feel like a grown up when I check my bank account
and either get really excited about all the money I have (ie, the beginning of the month)
or really depressed about all the money I don't have (ie, the end of the month).
I usually always feel like a grown up when I book and go on vacations all by myself well, with Robbie
and when I have to clean my house all by myself.
Being independent makes me feel like a real grown up.

But other times,
I find myself still feeling like a complete child
and still wishing for those "grown up" years where I'll be able to do certain things
that I can't do now,
no matter how "grown up" I may appear.

For instance,
when I'm a real, full-time grown up I'll be able to...

- dress appropriately for "chilly" weather.
Right now I've got really hot weather under control (shorts and flip flops)
and really cold weather under control (everything I can effing find in my closet)
but that in-between, chilly weather is still tough.
Like what exactly does 70 degrees mean?
No matter what I choose to wear, I either find myself too hot or too cold.

- stop hitting the snooze button.
I'm still holding on to the fact that I will grow up to be a morning person.
That I'll hear my alarm go off, and I'll magically be ready to go.

- stop falling asleep in the car.
Seriously, I'm like that crying baby that you drive around the block with
just so they'll fall asleep.
Put me in the car for more than 15 minutes and I'm out.
It's a childish problem.
Something I'm sure won't happen when I'm finally a real, full-time grown up.

- fly on an airplane all by myself.
This is one thing I'm still not wild about ever doing.
I get so nervous about flying,
not just the actual plane part, but the finding where I'm supposed to be,
keeping up with my ticket, catching all my layovers,
it stresses me out.
Although I'm sure it does not stress out real, full-time grown ups.

- read before going to sleep.
Instead of checking Instagram for the elventy millionth time.
Reading is supposed to be relaxing and good for the brain.
And something I hear grown ups delight in.

- cook things from scratch.
This is actually happening more and more lately.
Just more proof that I'm well on my way to this whole grown up thing.
I've always thought it was so cool when people threw together all sorts of ingredients
to make something completely yummy and delicious.
I want to do that all the time when I grow up.

And in honor of being a grown up
and it being time to #backthatazzup,
something I'm sure real, full-time grown ups do all the time,
I'll leave you with these gem.

Happy Friday dudes!

Cat's out of the bag.

And no, this is not a pregnancy announcement.
Ever since I barfed at 8:30am everyone's coming at me about babies.
Go figure.

I think I'm way late to this parade,
but Whitney and Sarah posted two ha-larious posts
about the load-of-crap-trend #whatsinbag on Instagram.
And I'm with them.
The inside of my purse is far from organized and trendy.
That's the whole reason you carry a purse,
so you can toss all your useless shit inside
and no one is the wiser.

Anyway, they both took one for the team
and spilled their guts bags for all of blogland to see.
So I figured I'd steal borrow their idea and do the same.

My dad always said, "a man never looks in a lady's purse".
It's like looking into their soul.
And to a certain degree, I kind of agree.
What you hold on to and carry in your purse says a lot about you.
I'm sure there's some psychology major doing research on that right now,
even though I'd be terrified to know what my bag says about me.

Hoarder, obsessive compulsive, zebra-print obsessed, are just a few that come to mind.
All totally not true, obviously.

Take a look for yourself.

Robbie got me that large Longchamp as a wedding gift
and seriously, it's the best thing ever.
It's HUGE and it's the only bag I ever use for school stuff too
so that's nice.

Contents include...

- Sunnies, that actually always stay in their designated case. You're welcome, Robbie.
- iPad and charger, something that doesn't stay in my purse 24/7, just back and forth to school.
- Hobo wallet aka the love of my life.
- school badge and keys.
- a free 7-day pass to the gym that will hopefully actually get used.
- pens, pens, and more pens.
- random papers
- loose change
- a rock? and a compass? I don't know....

- a jacket, again only back and forth from school
- planner
- hair ties, bobbie pins, paper clips
- Burt's Bees, a necessity.
- random ticket stubs, old gift cards, and business cards
- tissues
- hand sanitizer and lotion
- random NCSU notepad
- check book
- mini manicure set (for those pesky hangnails I always get)
- a Starbucks gift card from the sweetest co-worker I ever did have.

Honestly, I'd be perfectly capable of making it through
each day with 5% of these items.
But hey, where's the fun in that.

Dear Diane Sawyer,

I don't watch the news nearly as much as I should. At 24 years old, I should be way more aware of worldly happenings. I realize this and am very quick to admit to my current event deficiency. However, I'm not 100% sure watching the news every night would make me anymore up to snuff on the happenings of the world, which is concerning.

I often watch World News with you, Ms. Sawyer, following my local 6:30 news. Granted, it's usually background noise while I cook dinner check Facebook. Either way, I give you a really serious chance to enrich my mind, Diane. And frankly, not much is happening.

This could be my inability to hear anything Obama says. And no, that's not a direct slam on Obama. I have a really bad habit of instantly tuning out all politicians. As soon as they start talking, I hear Charlie Brown's teacher, no matter how hard I try not to. Seriously...during political debates I turn off all distractions and literally stare at the TV, yet nothing sinks in.

So all your segments on this whole government shutdown thing are completely wasted on me. I did manage to pay attention to the mention of the fact that Mr. President actually made a phone call the other day to someone important, who I assume he hasn't been speaking to recently. I can't be certain though.

Because shortly after discussing what was actually happening in our country, you switched over to Malala, the 15-year-old Pakistani girl who's been shot by the Taliban for standing up for her beliefs. Apparently she wrote a book. And I by no means am trying to be disrespectful or insensitive, because it's an amazing story, really. She's an amazing girl and I cried when you first told us about her......over a month ago. I've got one word for you, Diane, redundant. Surely they taught you that word in journalism school.

Pointless is a word they should have taught you too. Because the next stories were just that. Pointless.

First I caught a snippet of outraged parents, complaining because laundry detergent now looks like candy and apparently all the piggy, unsupervised children in America are consuming said laundry detergent pods and nearly dieing.

I wonder, Mrs. Sawyer, why did you choose to report about candy-looking laundry detergent instead of the real issue at hand....parents who leave laundry detergent in reach of their 18-month-old children. I mean, I know shit happens, but why aren't parents watching their kids? Better yet, why aren't parents teaching their kids not to put everything they find laying around in their mouth? These are the hard-hitting questions I'd like answers to, Diane.

The last story of the night was possibly the best. It was about "Occasional Wives/Husbands". Apparently, some genius out there has made a fortune by stepping in and picking up the pieces left behind by all the lazy spouses in the world. Tired of your husband not painting the guest room? No worries, you can now hire an "Occasional Husband" to do it for you, at only $25 an hour. Thanks to you, Diane Sawyer, I now know this valuable piece of information. If it weren't for you getting straight to the facts about renting a spouse I'd either a) still be staring at an unpainted guest room or b) gotten off my lazy ass and done it myself (and seriously, were's the good in that?)

I know I need to watch the news more and I know I need to be more up to date with important events happening in our world. Checking Twitter every 5 seconds isn't going to cut it in the grown up world. However, Diane, I'm concerned. Because I'm not quite sure catching up with you every night is going to cut it either. Because if laundry detergent disputes and rental spouses is what's going on in the grown up world, I'll probably just choose to opt out of the whole thing.

Sincerely,

Is this really what it's like to be an informed adult?

The Weekend That Was (Two Weeks Ago)

Remember that ah-mazing, blogworthy weekend I never got around to blogging about
thanks to a little, um, incident at school?

Well, I'm ready to throw back and blog about it.
I mean, I took pictures.
I can't let this opportunity slip by me.
Even if it is late.

Last Friday, Robbie picked me up from school
and we made our way to Raleigh for NCSU Parent's Weekend.

For years, Parent's Weekend has really just been an excuse
for me and Carter to spend the weekend together on mom's dime
#moochersforlife
It was fun this year, especially with Carter being the host.

We stayed at the Hyatt Place in Raleigh,
which isn't a five star resort
but definitely was a very, very nice hotel.

With really cool keys.

Robbie left at the butt crack of dawn for the ECU vs. UNC game in Chapel Hill
so I got some extra comfy snuggles in before we started tailgating for the State game.

And then, just like that I became "that" girl.
The way-too-old-to-be-in-the-student-lot,
but still-hanging-on-strong-girl.

And you know what, I don't even hate it.
Carter's roommates are the funnest.
And we didn't stay in the student lot the whole day.

Because eventually we made our way to mom's tailgate,
which also happened to be part of her 50th Birthday Celebration.

Oh, and this may or may not have happened.

Happy Birthday mama!

These still count as weekend shenanigans,
even if they happened two weekends ago.

As Promised

I know it's 5:00.
But I feel like that's the perfect time to write a Friday post.
Because, hallelujah, the weekend is finally here.

This week has legit been the longest week ever
and I slept my way through 20% of it.

Sidenote: TBS decided to change up their afternoon lineup
and no longer play Friends from 4:00-5:30.
Talk about an afternoon buzzkill.
So my husband is currently watching Cops
to which I'm not completely sure how to react.

Moving on....it's Friday and we all know Fridays mean one thing and one thing only.

It's time to crack up open a glass bottle of wine
and #backthatazzup.
(I know technically that's two things, but you can't fully appreciate one without the other.)

I couldn't find this song of groovshark #fail.
So you get a lame YouTube lyric video.
(which per usual led to me wasting approximately 36 minutes of my life looking at other YouTube videos)
Come on Gaga, stop being difficult.

But seriously, I'm obsessed with this song.
I may or may not have gotten in 3-5 near accidents on the way home from work today
because I was too busy dancing and not paying enough attention to the road.
Whoops.

Have a good weekend dolls!

Hugs,

I wore yoga pants

What I've (NOT) been up to lately....

Oh hey there bloggy blog.
Long time, no see.

As in two hump days ago.
That was the last time you were graced with my presence.
Hashtag I suck, I know.

I had an ah-mazing, completely blogworthy weekend.
And even better, I took pictures of said weekend.

And then I went to school on Monday
and projectile vomited all over the Kindergarten bathroom.
Which hasn't happened since, oh I don't know,
I was actually in Kindergarten?

Robbie even had to come pick me up
because it wasn't my day to drive.
I've never felt like more of a five year old.

Anywho - that kind of wiped out my Monday and Tuesday.
Blogging just wasn't on my list of things to do.

Don't worry, blog. You're definitely not alone.
What else have I been neglecting in the last week (plus) since you've seen me last?

Let's see...

1. Dishes.
The sink is full of dirty ones, the dishwasher's full of clean ones.
It's like a real life game of Jinga - don't make the tower topple.

2. 10 PM
Haven't seen that time in a while.

3. Laundry.
Both clean and dirty.
How many times is it socially acceptable to run the same load of clothes in the dryer?

4. Phone Calls.
I haven't made an outgoing call in I don't remember when.
And the last incoming call I actually answered was on Monday, from Robbie
when he checked in on me at home.
Don't worry - texting is still on point.

5. Humera.
I may or may not have taken my shot last night
instead of Sunday night like I was supposed to.
Shhh....don't tell "Dr. Always Take Your Shot on Time"

6. My MacBook.
This is the first time I've opened this thing since Sunday maybe?

7. Vacuuming.
The dog hair tumbleweeds are rolling through.
And I don't even feel like that's an inappropriate thing to blog about
because if you have dogs, particularly labs,
you know alllll about dog hair tumbleweeds.
The struggle is real.

8. Law and Order SVU and Grey's Anatomy.
I thought I watched a lot of TV until all these shows started coming back on.
And I realized, I really don't have very many shows that I absolutely have to catch every week.
SVU and Grey's are really the only ones.

And I have fallen asleep during both of them this past week.
I missed the last 5 minutes of Law & Order last week
and pretty much the whole thing last night.
Tonight's a new night for Grey's so we'll see how I do.

9. Pants.
The season of leggings is officially here to stay.

10. Putting things back where they belong.
This is big for me.
I'm a very "everything has a place" kind of person.
This week, everything's place as been the kitchen table,
the foyer, or any other place I drop my shit.
Walking the ten steps back to my bedroom to actually put it where it belongs
is just too much to handle right now.

...just to name a few.

Tomorrow's Friday
and I feel like I may finally be feeling up to something fun,
like backing that azz up fun?
Stay tuned!

Hugs,
